About the Department of Physical Education

The department of Physical Education was established in 2014. The physical education programme has a vision of a physically educated world where lifelong learning and physical activities are practiced by the students. The students are prepared to make lasting contributions to our community and society. The mission of physical education programme will create respectful students who value their health and fitness and also practice healthful activities throughout their lives.

There are many goals of physical education:

• Acquire a range of movement skills to participate in a variety of physical activities.
• Display positive personal and social behavior across different experiences
• Understand and apply movement concepts, principles and strategies in a range of physical activities
• Enjoy and value the benefits of living a physically active and healthy life The main objectives of physical education are to develop motor abilities like strength, speed, endurance, coordination, flexibility, agility and balance, as they are important aspects for good performance in different games and sports. Every year the department conducts Annual Sports. The department also participates in inter-college and district sports and games championship, conducted by the Higher Education Department of Government of West Bengal.
